• The interior pane of glass is it cold in the winter and warm in the summer.
• The area around the window is colder than other areas in the house.
• It feels like a draft in from or to the window. (Easy test is candles flame & smoke will be affected around the window)
• The trim is gone, rotting, or cracked.
• Windows get condensation or a frost buildup.
• The glass is broken, cracked, or chipped.
• The window is hard to open or close, sometimes gets stuck.
• The look and feel of the window is not to your liking.

On hard flooring,
1. Always use safety equipment: Goggles, Gloves, Close-toed Shoes, etc.
2. Clear area of obstacles that could hide hidden glass shards & particles. And other people, children and pets.
3. Vacuum the area to get rid of glass particles. (When cleaning out the vacuum bag, remember to use caution)
4. Use leather gloves, or thick-rubber, even dish washing gloves to take care of the larger shards.
5. It is best to dispose of the glass in an outside trash bin.
Note, you could sweep an area but it may leave behind small particles that can cause injury. So it is best to thoroughly vacuum the area.

On carpet or rug,
1. With proper safety equipment, Thick leather, rubber, or dish washing gloves, eye protection and close toed shoes, pick up large shards.
2. Vacuum the area very well and take care to dispose of the bag when done.
3. Dispose of glass in an outside bin.

• Weatherstripping – Seal any possible leak with some weather stripping. Stripping comes in several forms; foam, vinyl, metal, felt.
• Cell Shades – Perhaps the best looking method. This style of blinds can be lifted to see outside and shut to deflect & trap heat away from your home.
• Shutters – Well made shutters create a thick barrier for your windows.
• Draft Snake – While you can buy pre-made ones most anywhere, they can be sewn together aswell.

• Window Film – This one is used by businesses a lot, but can be installed into your San Diego Windows at Home too. It can be done by yourself or a professional installer.

The following is proven reasons for window replacement that are too old:
